MAX TAYLOR JORDAN COMBS
Fresno Stars
College Bound
|
Max Taylor got his start playing tennis at
Roeding Park when he was six years old. He went on to
consistently hold down a top spot in the increasingly tough NorCal
juniors. Now, with a National ranking of 23, the nimble Taylor
is headed to UC Santa Barbara on a tennis scholarship. |

Hard serving Jordan Combs is returning to UC
Davis all expenses paid, having proved himself in a standout
freshman season. A big man, Combs is the owner of powerful
groundstrokes and volleys that are gaining adaptability. He is
capable of demoralizing the opposition. |
|
|
Ounce for ounce, Max Taylor has
one of the biggest forehands in the game. Check out the one below,
but don't get too close, you might get hit by the ball.

When you're playing Jordan Combs
you won't be able to observe his service motion
― you'll be too busy dodging the
bullets. This may be the only chance you get. |

Sometimes it's hard to tell who's who. See for yourself!

With quick hands, Henry Landes of Berkeley (and
UC Davis) handles a backhand volley in this time-delayed photo. |

Wearing wrap-around shades, beach-bum choker,
and loose G-string, fiery Brian Brogan of Los Gatos (University of
Santa Clara) digs low. |

Mel Taylor has a wicked two-handed forehand, and she
looks like she enjoys hitting it. A former figure skater, Mel has
only been playing tennis seriously a few years. She is a valuable
asset to the Bullard High girls' team. (Mel's brother, Max, held
down the top boys' spot the last three seasons.) |
