Long time park player, Kevin Sullivan, suffered a freak injury to his hand during the April tournament.  According to Sullivan, "I've never done anything like this before.  I mean, sure, I've cut myself with my fingernail, and on a can of balls, but this is the first time my strings have ever cut me up."  At the time Sulllivan and partner Jack Horwitz were in a heated battle against Fritz Wilke and Armando Parra.  "It's a good thing it was my left hand," Sullivan says, "otherwise those guys would have creamed us."

Mickalian and Chui Out

Harry Mickalian and Johnson Chui are on the injured list.  Mickalian who has ignored a knee problem for years, finally went under the knife.  He's out for now but says in a couple of months he'll be ready to kick wimps like Bob Reinhardt around the court.  "Only trouble is," Mickalian laments, "Reinhardt's hanging out on the coast now, and with gas prices the way they are, it'll probably be some time before that punk shows up at the park again."

A strained calf muscle has temporarily sidelined Johnson Chui.  Chui, a smooth lefthander with a good serve, is being careful not to re- injure his leg.  "It's getting better," Chui says, "but I'm going to wait a few more weeks to make sure it heals completely."  (And that is advice more tennis players should heed!)
